SOS Notes from Meeting (3/19)

We had a great turnout last night and a powerful lesson ~ (Lesson 5) ~ Spiritual Warfare. Here are the notes...

"Greater is He that is in me, than He that is in the world."
I Peter 5:8-9 ~ God calls us to "resist" the enemy!

"Jesus came that we might have life and life to the full. Jesus came to set the captives free."

Proverbs 4:23 - Guard your hearts!

Jesus came to rescue us -- to heal us -- to restore us as women! Every story has a villain. In our story, there is an enemy.

Satan is one who knows who you could become with God and fears you!

I Peter 5:8-9 -- Your enemy is roaring like a lion to devour your life.
The enemy is the one that has us in chains!
The enemy twists messages and emotions in our lives to affect our lives negtively!
The enemy whispers in our ear ---> negative messages ----> messages of doubt, self-defeat, hopelessness, despair, or...Whispers from our enemy....
"I'm all alone"
"God is holding out on my life...."
"You're doing such a terrible job."
"You will not have the life you want unless you take control of your own life".

These are messages from our enemy. Fear and anxiety kick in!

This is our solution:
* Prayer - pray in Jesus' Name - brings freedom and change!
* "God has not given us a spirit of fear" ----> CLAIM this for your life!
* What does it look like to fight for your life and resist the enemy?
* What do you hear when you pass a mirror?
-I'm not good enough, -I'm ugly, -I'm worthless, -I've made too many mistakes, -I'm too weak!

REMEMBER: "The battle is the Lord's. The Lord will fight for you! But, YOU must do your part and surrender to Him completely. Put Him first in your life. Pray every time you hear the whispers of your enemy and resist the enemy in Jesus' Name!"

4th "Captivating" Meeting

Post by Susana Paz:
Ladies:
What a blessing we had last night during our SOS small group! The DVD topic was "Wounded". Here's a small recap of our learnings:
-No one has a pain-free life!
-What is the story of your wounds?
-Is God using your wounds for His glory -- to reach others, to comfort others, to heal others?
-How do your wounds impact you -- feeling unsafe, feeling neglected, very alone, feeling ugly or not wanted?
-The Enemy tries to rob us of joy in our lives and attempts to destoy our lives using our wounds!
-Women in pain feel "trapped"
- Prayer is a powerful tool in healing our wounds
- The key to our prayers is to leave it with God (and truly let it go!)
- God commands us to "forgive" those who hurt us
Key verse: Isaiah 61:1-3
"He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies. To all who mourn, He will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair. For the Lord has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for His own glory."

2nd Meeting

Post by Susana Paz:
Happy Friday Ladies,

We had a great meeting last night (Thursday) with a small group! The DVD series (Captivating) in chapter 2 discussed: Created Eve / Fallen Eve. Here are some of the notes from last night:

Genesis 2:21-23 - Story of Creation
> God created perfect man but said "It is not good for man to be alone..."
> God created perfect woman (Eve)
> Eve had the characteristics of God ~ vulnerable, inviting, tender, devoted, merciful, loving, caring
> However, when Eve and Adam sinned ... they hid because they felt their nakedness.

* How do we "HIDE" who we really are? How do you escape? (Or distract yourself?)
- cleaning, cleaning, cleaning
- being busy all the time
- not sharing the real you in a relationship
- hiding in a closet - withdrawal, silence, inward
- indulgences such as "food" ~ shopping ~ movies ~ novels ~ television ~ magazines ~ daydreaming

*These things in themselves are not bad. However, they become "negative" when they rob of us of having a real relationship with our God; or when they rob of us of having an authentic relationship with someone we love; or when they rob us of being our REAL SELVES!!!!

* The reason women "HIDE" who they really are is because their CORE DESIRES are not met and this produces inside of us an "ACHE". So, to ease the ache, we (women) hide or escape or distract ourselves!

* However, God created us with our CORE DESIRES. God wants us to invite Him to help us with our core desires and our ache. But, sadly, we push God away! Underneath our sin is a deep fear. What are you most afraid of?

Read Hebrews 4:14-16

God knows why we do the things we do. He understands us. Look to Him now! There is mercy in His eyes. He would like not only to forgive us our fallen ways, but HEAL OUR FEAR, AND REVEAL HIS LOVE TO US in the depths of our soul where we have yet to trust HIM!!!!

Self Talk Soul Talk

Post by Susana Paz:
From the book: "Self Talk Soul Talk" by Jennifer Rothchild...
"Hope always seems to involve waiting, longing. Waiting is often depleting and longing can be dissatisfying. It's all a matter of where we put our hope. If our hope is in right circumstances, life will never quite measure up, for it has more than its fair share of disappointments and struggles. But when hope is grounded in someplace better than here, our view of this life diminishes!

Tell your soul to hope in God (Psalm 42:11) and you will be infused with strength beyond your circumstance!"

Sisters, Have a blessed week-end and enjoy the beauty and hope only our Lord provides!!!!

First "Captivating" Session

Post info by Susan Paz:
Last night we met for the first time in 2009 and experienced many blessings from our SOS small group. We praise the Lord for the "new" ladies we were blessed with and for the returning ones, too!

The DVD series we started is from Stasi Eldredge called: "Captivating" (Unveiling the mystery of a woman's soul). This series is about learning more of God, and more restoration into the woman you were created to be. The DVD is set as a woman's small group and is not a lecture ~ the context is various women (different ages) speak to the author Stasi about their experiences with the learning truths.

Please join us even if you were not able to attend the first night. We will let you know where Stasi's book is available so you can come to our next meeting prepared.
